A tripping RCD or circuit breaker is a warning that something is wrong — moisture ingress, a faulty appliance, damaged wiring or an overloaded circuit. Our tripping circuit investigation service systematically isolates and tests every circuit, appliance and protective device to find the exact cause of the trip. We do not just reset the breaker; we diagnose the underlying problem and fix it so your power stays on safely.

What We Do

RCD tripping cause investigation and testing
Circuit breaker and MCB nuisance trip diagnosis
Earth leakage and insulation resistance testing per circuit
Appliance earth leakage testing to identify faulty equipment
Moisture ingress and damp-related fault location
Neutral-earth fault and loose connection tracing
RCD and circuit breaker replacement if the device itself is faulty
How It Works

Our Process

01

Trip History Analysis

We ask when the tripping started, what was being used at the time, whether weather was wet and if any recent electrical work has been carried out.

02

Circuit Isolation Testing

We isolate every circuit and test insulation resistance, earth leakage and continuity to identify which circuit contains the fault.

03

Appliance & Device Testing

We test suspect appliances for earth leakage and test the RCD or breaker itself to confirm it is operating correctly and not faulty.

04

Repair & Verify

We repair the identified fault — whether it is a faulty appliance, damaged cable, moisture ingress or a defective protective device — and verify the system is safe.

FAQ

Common Questions

Why does my RCD trip when it rains?

Rain can cause moisture ingress into outdoor sockets, garden lighting, security lights or cable joints. Water increases earth leakage current which trips sensitive RCDs. We trace the affected circuit and seal the moisture entry point.

Can a faulty appliance cause the whole house to trip?

Yes. If an appliance with an earth fault is plugged into a socket protected by an RCD, the RCD will trip. We can test each appliance to identify the culprit and advise on repair or replacement.

Do I need a new consumer unit if my RCD keeps tripping?

Not necessarily. The RCD may be doing its job by detecting a genuine fault elsewhere. We investigate thoroughly before recommending any replacement. If the RCD itself is faulty, we can replace just the device.
