Fixed wire testing is the systematic inspection and testing of all permanently installed electrical circuits and equipment in a building. Our fixed wire testing service checks every circuit from the distribution board to the final outlet, verifying that earthing, bonding, insulation and protective devices are all functioning correctly. This is the same comprehensive process used to produce an EICR certificate and is essential for safety, insurance and regulatory compliance.

FAQ

Common Questions

Is fixed wire testing the same as an EICR?

Yes. An EICR is the certificate produced at the end of fixed wire testing. The terms are often used interchangeably, though EICR refers specifically to the report document.

How often should fixed wire testing be carried out?

Domestic rental properties: every 5 years or at change of tenancy. Owner-occupied homes: every 10 years recommended. Commercial premises: every 5 years. Industrial premises: every 3 years.

Will the power be off during testing?

Yes, each circuit must be isolated for safety during testing. We restore power to tested circuits as we go, so disruption is kept to a minimum. We can schedule testing at quiet times if preferred.
