Top Signs Your Home Needs Rewiring
1. Your Wiring Is Over 25 Years Old
If your home still has the original wiring and it was built before the late 1990s, it is likely due for an upgrade. Rubber or fabric-insulated cables, aluminium wiring, and old fuse boxes with rewirable fuses are all red flags.
2. Frequent Blown Fuses or Tripped Breakers
If your fuses blow regularly or your circuit breakers trip without an obvious cause, your circuits may be overloaded or your wiring may be deteriorating. This is a warning sign that should not be ignored.
3. Discoloured or Scorch Marks Around Sockets

What Does a Rewire Involve?
A typical full rewire is carried out in two stages:
First Fix
This happens before plastering. Floors and walls are lifted where necessary to run new cables to every socket, switch and light point. Cable routes are planned to minimise disruption.
Second Fix
Once plastering is complete, sockets, switches, light fittings, and the new consumer unit are installed. The entire system is then tested and certified.
How Long Does It Take?
A typical 3-bedroom house takes 5 to 10 days. A 1-bedroom flat takes 3 to 5 days, and a 4 to 5-bedroom house takes 10 to 15 days. If the property is occupied, we work room by room to minimise disruption. Many customers stay in the property during the rewire, though it can be dusty. For empty properties, we can work faster.
How Much Does a Full Rewire Cost?
Costs vary depending on property size, accessibility, and the number of circuits required. As a rough guide, a 1-bedroom flat ranges from £2,500 to £4,000, a 2-bedroom house from £3,000 to £5,000, a 3-bedroom house from £3,500 to £6,000, and a 4-bedroom house from £5,000 to £8,000. Do I Need a Partial Rewire Instead?
